A five-thousand-year-old healing system, held by a doula's understanding of what you have just been through
For mothers after birth — and for every woman who needs to be properly caught
This tradition comes from Kerala in southern India. It was designed first for mothers after birth — but it belongs equally to any woman who wants to come back into her own body.
Vaginal or caesarean birth alike, and especially within the first 42 days. Supports the uterus in returning, settles postpartum anxiety, and helps with sleep and the physical toll of breastfeeding.
Irregular or painful periods, PMS, poor pelvic circulation, chronic fatigue, hormonal disruption from long-term stress — all of these respond to sustained Ayurvedic care.
Persistent anxiety, insomnia, a mind that will not stop, the sense that your body is not quite yours. Ayurveda calls this excess Vāta, and warm-oil massage is its most direct answer.
For those who want to nourish the reproductive system and settle the nervous system before pregnancy — meeting a new life from a well-resourced body.
"You have taken care of everyone.
So who takes you back into your own body?"
Āyurveda — literally "the knowledge of life" — reads a woman's body and mind as one system that cycles and remembers. Menstruation, birth, menopause, sustained stress: each leaves a physical imprint. Left unattended, those imprints accumulate as insomnia, anxiety, chronic fatigue and gynaecological difficulty.
The six weeks after birth are called Sutika Kala — the window in which a mother's body and emotions recover. But even outside that window, Vāta — the energy governing movement, change and nerve conduction — goes into excess very easily in women. Modern pace, overthinking and postpartum hormonal shifts all push it out of balance.
Three moments — the gaze, the oil, and being caught
The Kerala tradition brings together three strands — massage, herbal steam and herbal bath — toward one end: that you come back to living inside your own body.
The introductory session is massage only (Abhyanga). The full therapy adds herbal steam and herbal bath — together they do considerably more than any one of them alone.
Abhyanga is not surface touch. Warm oil and hands are absorbed together. When your eyes close and the muscles hand themselves over one by one, that is your body saying: at last, someone has taken this from me.
Traditionally prepared herb-infused oil — not essential oil — warmed and worked from head to foot. It settles a dysregulated nervous system directly. This is the heart of the therapy and the whole of the introductory session.
Gentle herbal steam to the perineum and pelvic floor, supporting the uterus in returning, lochia in clearing, and perineal tissue in healing. For women who are not postpartum it addresses irregular or painful periods and pelvic circulation. Versions of this practice exist in many cultures' women's medicine.
The Kerala tradition of full immersion in water steeped with herbs, head to foot. Skin, pores and lymph breathe together; taken after massage, the effect roughly doubles.
I practise in Taipei and in Zushi, Kanagawa. If Ayurveda is new to you, begin with the introductory session. If you already know you need deep repair, the full therapy is the complete answer.
⏱ The times shown are for the treatment itself. Consultation, changing and rest before and after add another 30–50 minutes, so please allow yourself plenty of time.
✨ Every session, in both countries, includes Shirodhara — a thread of warm oil poured onto the centre of the forehead. It is the deepest rest Ayurveda has to offer, most people very nearly fall asleep, and it is the single element founding clients mentioned most often in their feedback.
💫 Taipei: no surcharge at the Beitou studio · home visits by distance — Taipei City and nearby free–NT$200, greater Taipei NT$300–500, outer areas (Tamsui, Xindian, Xizhi, Linkou) around NT$600, Taoyuan and Hsinchu NT$1,000 · weekends and evenings +NT$500
💫 Zushi: no surcharge at the salon · home visits in the Zushi–Hayama area +¥1,500–3,000 by distance · weekends and evenings +¥2,000
In Taipei the founding places are now full and sessions have returned to the standard rate.
In Zushi the practice is still finding its feet, so five places remain —
with more time, closer accompaniment, and a hand in shaping what this becomes.
What founding clients receive: beyond the opening rate — a longer consultation, follow-up care shaped around you, and first refusal on appointments.
What I ask in return: tell me afterwards how it was for you. Anonymously is completely fine. Other women find their way here through those words.
Five places left · closes 30 September 2026 · remaining places are posted on Instagram
Warm, quiet, fully equipped.
For when leaving the house and having time alone is the point.
Getting out of the house is hard after a birth, so I can bring everything to you.
Greater Taipei, and the Zushi–Hayama area in Japan. Travel charged by distance.
A private room near the sea in Zushi.
For those living in Japan — every session here includes Shirodhara.
Every one of these comes from a woman who actually went through this care. All are shared with her consent, at the level she chose — by name, by nickname, or anonymously. Quotes originally given in Chinese or Japanese are translated here.
It was the moment the oil was poured onto my brow. Something sacred opened. In the silence I felt wave after wave washing over me, as though petals were unfolding and letting go, one at a time.
If it were possible, I think every woman should be nourished like this once a month. Unhurried. Just keep one day for yourself. And then, through this gentle, loving touch, give the body a new sensation — that I am worth spending this kind of time on.
The best reward — it takes you from ordinary tiredness into deep rest. That lovely state just before you fall asleep lasted from the beginning to the end.
Thank you for taking such care of both the mother and the baby. My baby slept peacefully even in an unfamiliar room, and only because of that could I really let go.
The Shirodhara was the thing — it let me drop off, which almost never happens for me however tired I am. The next day I still had enough to take the children to the park, and I napped too.
The touch was very light, yet you could feel how consciously Milliya was working. It was the first time I understood that gentleness can also go deep.

I am Milliya — a birth doula and an integration coach for women's body, mind and spirit.
Across the births I have attended, I have come to think the real test of having a baby is not the hours of labour. It is the forty-two days afterwards, when nobody actually asks how you are. And it is not only postpartum — through menstruation, through trying to conceive, through years of accumulated stress, a great many women are living in that same state of not being properly held.
I went to Ayurveda because it gave me language. It connects something as vague as "my body feels hollow" to a system with five thousand years of accumulated observation behind it. It is not another kind of spa. It answers why this is happening, and it tells you what to do.
I bring together the doula's view, training in women's body-mind-spirit integration, and the Ayurvedic postpartum massage practicum I completed at Ganesha Space in Hualien in May 2026 — and I have brought that back to Taipei, and to Zushi.
Not because I can care for you better than a postpartum centre can. Because women in this era need more than one way of being caught.
Fill in the booking form and I will reply within 24 hours. The form asks about your body in some detail — Ayurvedic bodywork has real contraindications, and I would rather know beforehand.
Here is what happens next: we talk for about 15 minutes, on a LINE call or Google Meet. Camera off is completely fine.
In those 15 minutes we settle three things together — whether your body is ready for this right now, which session fits what you actually need, and roughly when we might meet.
The call is free. You do not have to decide on the spot, and nothing is charged.
And if it turns out this is not the right moment for you, that is a good outcome too — I will tell you so honestly.
English and Chinese both welcome, and I see clients in Japan too.
